Chase ends with crash
A King County sheriff’s deputy spotted a reckless driver at about 9:15 p.m. in the 9600 block of Des Moines Memorial Drive April 16, according to King County Sheriff's spokeswoman Cindi West. The suspect slammed head-on into another car and the other car then burst into flames, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies pulled the driver and a passenger from the wreckage, but two dogs inside the car were killed in the fire. The driver and passenger were rushed to Harborview with serious injuries, West said.
The woman in the passenger seat got out of the car on her own, but deputies had to pull the male driver from the flaming vehicle.
Felon sentenced to 10 years
A convicted felon with a long criminal record was sentenced to 10 years in prison for randomly firing a gun into a crowded parking lot in Tukwila last summer. Piseth Mam, 34, was arrested last August after a shooting incident at a Tukwila apartment complex. Prosecutors say Mam was driving a white Honda when he pulled up to the complex, fired several shots into the parking lot and then drove off. Nobody was injured in the shooting.
Mam was arrested a few days later. Investigators searched his car and found a stolen 9mm Beretta pistol. As a convicted felon, Mam was prohibited from possessing a gun. Investigators also found dozens of pieces of stolen mail. Mam has been convicted of domestic violence assault, burglary and possession of an assault weapon, according to U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan. In addition to the gun charges, Mam was also convicted of aggravated identity theft, which requires a mandatory minimum two-year sentence to run consecutive with his gun conviction.
