Not a nice homecoming after weekend away

June 23, 8:24 p.m., 100 Block of NW 74 St -- Coming back from a trip out of town, residents discovered that a burglar had broken into their house by prying open a side window. They said all their doors and windows had been secure before their departure.

The victims stated that the missing following were stolen:

• One Apple Silver Macbook AIR-Laptop ($3000) Serial
• Unknown amount of USC coins
• Seven Pairs of Misc Womens Earrings ($300)
• U.S. Passport

While officers did not carry out an on-scene investigation for latent fingerprints, victims consented to having several items taken as evidence for fingerprint analysis, including a couple of plastic child safety locks, a glass jewelry box and an empty glass tray. All appeared to be handled by the burglar.

Thirsty burglar leaves prints on juice bottle

June 24, 10:03 p.m., 5700 Block of Greenwood Ave N -- Residents left their home for just two hours, but that's all it took for burglars to move in.

Gaining entrance was tricky. The victim said he had investigated the house prior to police arrival and that it looked like they first tried to pry open the door but were unsuccessful. Then they somehow got through a second story window, which is apparent by a fan being pushed out of the way, and proceeded to rifle through the upstairs bedrooms.

One of the burglars was apparently thirsty, taking a drink from a juice bottle before leaving through a window next to the rear door.

A neighbor told police officers he may have seen the people who burglarized the residence: three males, one a light-skinned black male and two Hispanic males in their late teens to early twenties. They apparently walked away from the residence and got into a Honda or possibly a Toyota passenger car that parked below Phinney Ave N on the Woodland Park Loop. the witness had no other information and said he would not be able to recognize them.

The police officers collected and put into evidence the juice bottle and located latent prints on a glass/mirrored jewelry box and a small tin box.

Officers checked outside but found nothing else.

Make sure to close your windows all the way

June 24, 6:19 p.m., 1130 Block of 3rd Ave NW -- A burglar had gained access into a resident's home through a window that had been left slightly open. He apparently used a small stick to reach inside the window and knock out a small piece of wood that was keeping the window from being opened all the way and gained entry.

Once inside, he rummaged through several rooms before leaving out the garage door with $1,052-worth of stolen items.

Among the items was a handgun pruchased in 1994 or 1995, but the victim did not know the serial number and had no paperwork for it. He said there was one magazine for the gun but no ammunition.

A fingerprint search turned up negative.

Two roommates burglarized, Wii among stolen items

June 24, 8:14 p.m., 3000 Block of NW 67th St -- A burglar had broken a basement window to get into a house and stole several items. The victim said she could tell that the burglar had gotten into her roommate/landlord's bedroom as well.

The victim said she was missing her Mac Book Pro and three pieces of Tiffany's jewelry (two bracelets, one necklace). She did not have the serial number for the laptop at the time of the report but may be able to provide it at a later time. She had no suspect or witness information.

The roommate said she had left her house that morning and that her residence was secure and her dog was inside. When she arrive home, after being notified that they were burglarized, she noticed several items missing, including a Nintendo Wii with four controllers, a Nike Shock Watch, and several electronic items. She said she would submit serial numbers later.

She noticed a pair of gardening gloves that were on the back patio were missing and that she suspects they were used during the burglary. The officer could not locate latent fingerprints.

It's always a good time to have a Big Hunk candy bar

June 24, 9:21 p.m., 1500 Block of NW Market St -- A woman who parks her vehicle in a secured parking garage for several weeks at a time fell victim to a burglary.

About a week-and-a-half ago, she parked her Volkswagen in her assigned parking spot and left it locked with the cloth convertible top closed. When she went down to her car to retrieve a Big Hunk candy bar, she noticed someone cut the cloth top and stole the candy bar (Nooo!) as well as vehicle registration and possibly the title.

The victim did not have any suspect or witness information and there were no security cameras in the garage.

Shoplifter makes off with brandy

June 25, 5:16 p.m., 8700 Block of Greenwood Ave N -- A suspect made off with several bottles of alcohol, including four-five regular-sized bottles of E&J Brandy and two large bottles.

The witness, a store manager, described the suspect as a black male, late 30's to early 40's, balding, 5'6", slim build and wearing a gray jacket and blue jeans. (Security footage later identified this description as accurate.)

The manager said he had watched the suspect load the bottles into his shoulder bag and offered to ring the alcohol up for him. the suspect declined, but asked the manager to get a cart. When the manager didn't leave, the suspect made his way to the south exit.

The manager attempted to grab the bag from the suspect, but the suspect grabbed it back, and because there's a hands-off policy concerning suspects, the manager let him go.

The manager followed the suspect for a short distance and saw him go southbound on the alley west of Greenwood Ave N, in the 8500 block.

The incident was caught on camera and the store will send a copy to police when they can make one. An area check turned up negative.
