Missed that “share the road” day of class
On July 16, around 5 p.m., a man was walking with his infant child in a stroller on a path near the 3600 block of 22nd Ave. S.W. when the stroller ran into mechanical difficulties. As dad worked to repair his child’s ride, a man approached on a bicycle and started cursing at him to get out of the way. The victim told police he made room for the cyclist to pass, but the aggressor kept on, cursing him loudly and striking him in the legs with his front tire. The suspect then dismounted and bumped the father in the chest as he spewed out another long litany of curses and threats, before finally getting back on his bike and riding away. Father and son escaped the incident without injury.
Good deed goes punished
On the afternoon of July 14 a man living on S.W. Trenton St. was enjoying the idyllic summer weather on his porch when a young man approached him and asked if he could borrow $10 for gas so he could go pick up his wife. The youngster said he would certainly return with the man’s $10 shortly, so he lent the cash. Shortly after that the man left his home to visit a friend. Upon his return he found that very same young man standing outside an open window of his house with no shoes on, holding one shoe in his hand. The youngin’ turned suspect told the victim it was unwise to leave windows unlocked at his home and that he accidentally dropped one of his shoes inside the house. The victim went inside to recover the suspect’s shoe and found all of his drawers opened and a jar of change valued at $10 missing. The suspect said he came back to return the $10 he borrowed, but he only had a $100 bill. The victim said he had $80 to make change and the suspect said that would be fine, since he wanted to tack on a $10 bonus for the good deed in the first place. The victim laid out $80 and the suspect took it. He then proceeded to root through his pockets for the $100 that he couldn’t find. He stated he must have left the $100 at home and left to go get it with the promise of a quick return. He, as you might have guessed, never returned.
Teens steal, then discard guitar
On July 16 someone broke into a home on 24th Ave. S.W. and ransacked the place, which was full of music equipment and electronics. A witness saw three kids in their late teens by the victim’s back gate and one of them was carrying a bass guitar valued at $800. Moments later, the suspect discarded the guitar and the suspects bailed. The witness recovered the instrument and got it back to the victim, who told police, besides the bass, none of the musical equipment was touched and it appeared the suspects only took smaller electronics including a laptop and Wii-U video game console.
