Wendy Damoth, of Flower Lab, Corina Luckenbach of Circa Alehouse, and Heidi Herr of Bird on a Wire Espresso have joined forces to transform the front half of the flower shop into Admiral Bird a kind of hybrid cafe, coffee shop and flower shop. It will open in December.
Bird on a Wire Espresso's Heidi Herr and Corina Luckenbach from Circa Alehouse are about to open a café in the front half of the Flower Lab called the Admiral Bird. They emphasized that The Flower Lab will continue to operate and offer flowers including two large flower coolers abundantly filled with loose flowers, and many pre-made, ready to go, hand tied arrangements.
The location is at the corner of Admiral Way and Calfornia Ave S.W. at 2600 California Ave. S.W.
Wendy Damoth and her staff will still focus on weddings, events, floral design and plant expertise. The biggest difference will be that you will now be able to enjoy a cup of coffee in the space that was previously devoted to retail gift items. Damoth took over the space and renamed the former Linda's Flowers in March of 2012.
Admiral Bird is offering RAVENS BREW COFFEE, LOCAL & SUSTAINABLE PASTRIES, 3 beers on tap, cider, growlers, specialty bottled beers and wine to go.
In a press release the new owners said, "It’s a joyful community space with a nautical feel, wi-fi and bright window seating. There will be homemade daily soups, grilled sandwiches and many grab and go options like breakfast salads in mason jars. Need coffee for an event? We have airpots you can rent-complete with cream, cups and sugar. Adding pastries is also an option."
They added that people waiting for a table at Circa Alehouse across the street will be able to get their name on the list then have a seat at the Admiral Bird and wait comfortably until your name is called.
The new space is also available for rental. "We will work with you to create a fun and memorable event (including flowers from Flower Lab!). Have a film or slides you want to show? We also offer a movie screen/slide projector!," they said.
They are open to suggestions from anyone they said, "We are flexible gals that would love to hear what you have to say. We are opening in early December and can’t wait to see all the familiar faces of the Admiral District, those venturing up from the "South West", and meet our new neighbors."
