Aiming to be an over 21 gamer paradise, Vidiot, just opened in the former Shipwreck Tavern location on Admiral Way, is offering free video games, low priced beer, and sandwiches.
If you've been wishing you could go back to a simpler time when beer cost less and you could play video games like Joust, Defender and Galaga to your heart's content your wish has come true.
A new bar called Vidiot has opened in the former location of the Shipwreck Tavern at 4210 SW Admiral Way.
The Shipwreck closed in November of 2012, and the space has sat vacant since. But now Quentin "Tony" Mitchum has launched Vidiot with a focus on video and other gaming but with a full bar and a variety of sandwich selections to complete the picture.
Mitchum is a veteran restaurateur with several places he's been part of including Picolo's Pizza in the U-District, Tony's Liquid House in Wallingford, and Speedway Pizza in Mukilteo.
He chose the theme because he himself is a self described gaming geek. He said he has reached, "level 19 on Tetris," reaching a high score of over 500,000.
"There are other places like this around but none really in West Seattle," said Mitchum," and some friends of mine and I wanted to go play pinball and there were only like three machines in the entire area."
Vidiot offers FREE video games using a special multiple game system called Ultracade that lets the gamer choose between hundreds of arcade favorites. Plus on some consoles you can compete with a friend. Pinball games (not free), board games, and "We'll probably have Magic upstairs, like a magic gathering," Mitchum said.
There is no draft beer (the building is not set up for that) but bottled beer starts at $2 each and sandwiches will include toasted BBQ, with home made hot sauces plus some favorite recipes he developed in his other restaurants.
He also plans to feature gaming tournaments for some of the most popular games in the next few months.
There's no signage up just yet. They got a lease about only a month ago and a new sign will go up soon, weather permitting.
Starting out Vidiot is cash only but the credit card machines will be working soon.
Vidiot will be open 7 days a week from 5pm to 2am daily.
