A design review meeting is coming up Feb. 20 for the "Alki Landing project being developed by Borge Steinsvik as a mixed-use building located at the eastern corner of 59th Ave. S.W. and Alki Ave. S.W. at 2626 Alki Ave. S.W. The meeting will be at the West Seattle Senior Center at 4217 S.W. Oregon Street at 6:30 p.m.

Steinsvik owns the 13,700 ft. lot that Alki Beach Properties and Saigon Boat Café currently call home. According to Roger H Newell AIA Architects (tasked with designing the new development) the plans are for a mixed-use residential and commercial space with surface parking and “one or two eating establishments on the main floor of the building with possible commercial uses on the upper floors.”

AIA previously presented four different design options at a Southwest Design Review Board meeting.
The current design will be available for review at the meeting.

Architects initially planned to build underground parking, but Newell said the idea was scrapped “due to the extensive peat layer under the site.”

The proposal calls for a 3-story structure containing 14 residential units, 5 live-work units, and 3,250 sq. ft. of commercial space. Surface parking for 28 vehicles to be provided. Existing structures would be demolished.

Newell had previously explained the preferred design direction:

“Our preferred design will include a terraced façade along Alki Avenue and a portion of S.W. 59th which will provide the necessary clearances from the existing power lines. We are proposing a strong structural solution where the structure defines the architecture. The project is proposed to meet the LEED silver requirements" (guidelines for green, energy efficient designs).
