West Seattle icon Jim Sweeney, who passed away Feb. 5, 2012, influenced many lives, changing them for the better. As a mentor, friend, adviser, and American patriot, Sweeney was an example for many.

To honor his memory, his son in law, Matthew Pedersen, and Kory Love decided to create something that would serve to remind everyone of the impact Jim's life had on those who knew him.

Working with Ron Bryant of Bryant Fine Concrete, they designed and installed an exposed concrete slab, a flagpole and most importantly a commemorative plaque that reads:

"Dedicated to the memory of Jim B. Sweeney
'Tell it to Sweeney'
1938-2012"

Above it the American flag is flying proudly, joined by the Seahawks 12th Man Flag.

The plaque itself was made by Northwest Trophy.

"I just think it's the right thing to do to remember Jim," said Pedersen," and everything he did for the community and for the guys who work here and just for me, being part of the family. It takes more than just one guy to run with something like this. Kory helped design the flagpole and helped with the concrete pour and had a hand in the landscaping. I think Jim would really like it and I just wish he was around to watch the Superbowl with us."
