Three Chief Sealth seniors were honored before the game against the Ingraham Rams last night in front of the home crowd for the last game at the Nest for the season. Joseph Kilgore, Leeandre Dickerson, and Jamari Smith came out to center court with their family and friends to be acknowledged for their athletic and academic accomplishments. The electric atmosphere created by the ceremony spilled over into the game.
The Hawks took the opening tip off and had six points on the board before Ingraham knew what happened.
The Rams would regain their composure and close the gap but Coach Slingsby’s squad would not allow a Rams lead to happen.
The Rams would tie the game several times in the first half, but they could not shut down the shooting and defense put up by Sealth who had three starters in double figures.
Every Seahawk scored in the game with the exception of Forward Chad Wollgast, but Wollgast was a defensive force in the paint forcing the Rams to go to an outside game. That allowed the Hawks to build a 27-23 lead at the half.
In the second half the situation didn’t change. With a stingy defense and the ability of Sealth to force the Rams to defend to entire half court Alloney Burris, Khaleef Griffen, Jamari Smith, and Haffid Yassin found lanes through the paint.
When Ingraham shut down the lanes, it provided outside shooting opportunities for Sealth who cruised down the stretch for a 65-54 win.
