Would-be purse thief bites Trader Joe’s patron’s thumb in struggle
According to the Burien Police Department, a would-be purse thief bit the thumb of a shopper at the Burien Trader Joe’s while attempting to steal her purse just before the store closed on Jan. 28. Witnesses told the police that the suspect tried to grab the victim’s purse, but when the victim resisted giving up her bag, a struggle ensued. During the struggle, the thief bit the victim’s right thumb but still failed take the purse. Thanks to intervention from employees and other patrons, the robbery was thwarted but the thief got away. Police have not released any further information about the suspect.
Sister turns step-brother into police for cooking meth in N.E. Shorewood neighborhood
According to paperwork filed by the King County Sheriff’s Department, a woman who wished to remain anonymous, came forward with information about her step-brother cooking methamphetamine in the garage of a Shorewood neighborhood home. Police responded to the tip on Jan. 26 and found that preparation had been occurring in the garage by way of propane-powered stoves. The owners of the home being occupied by the suspect were reported being unsure of how long the cooking had been taking place in the neighborhood. The incident is part of an ongoing investigation.
SUV runs red light in Burien and sends Snoqualmie Casino Express bus into nearby building
According to Sargent Hall of the King County Sheriff’s Department, on the evening of Sun., Jan. 27, a silver, late model Cadillac Escalade heading east on S.W. 136th St. ran a red light and collided with a full size tour bus known as the Snoqualmie Casino Express, heading south on Ambaum Blvd. The collision sent the SUV spinning towards the sidewalk on the west side of Ambaum while the bus was sent across oncoming traffic lanes, over the east sidewalk, and into an unoccupied building located just southeast of the intersection. Witnesses reported seeing a woman and young boy jump from the back seat of the SUV and flee the scene before police arrived. Emergency responders found the only person on the bus, the female driver, under debris within the building and transported her to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The male driver and female passenger of the SUV were transported to Highline Medical Center with minor injuries. Though the results of the test have yet to be released, blood was drawn from the drive of the SUV to see if alcohol played a factor in the accident. Police charged the SUV driver with Vehicular Assault. Police reported that the driver of the bus remained in stable condition at Harborview Medical Center.
