Dis/Oriented comedy show will feature West Seattle's Mona Concepcion
Wed, 02/26/2014
Dis/orient/ed Comedy is a touring show that highlights local talent and professional comics from Los Angeles that is coming to, no, not West Seattle but Bellevue on March 16. For locals heading over to the eastside it had better be pretty special. This show qualifies. First it features West Seattle's own Mona Concepcion the Herald told you about in December.
But better than that, this show represents the first (mostly) all Asian American all female touring comedy show.
Hosted the by Jenny Yang with Atsuko Okatsuka also on the bill are Bri Pruett, Katie Nguyen, and Shannon Koyano.
They sold out the Renton Civic Theater on 3/16 of last year so their show at Parlor live will be the one year anniversary. The ladies have been selling out theaters and other large venues because they have really connected with the their core audience, the Asian-American community.
The primary comic and main producer Jenny Yang is passionate about issues of equality, cultural pride and social advocacy. This is reflected in her comedy and the theme of the production. The result of a show like this is more than just being entertained. It gives the audience a sense of unity, and empowerment through the laughter and recognition of our shared humanity. Mona performed in Renton and Portland last year with Di/orient/ed Comedy.
The show is at Parlor Live, 700 Bellevue Way NE, 3rd Floor. Tickets are $25 at the door or presale online for $18 until Mar. 10 at disoriented comedy.com. There's a 2 item minimum purchase.
