Police blotter 6.19.2014
by Tim Clifford
Roving, robbing and stealing
Three victims were robbed by a large gang of thieves on the 1700 block of Alki Ave. S.W. between 2:50 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. on the morning of June 14. The first victim, a female, was walking with her friend when they encountered the group of 7 suspects and stopped and talked with them for about 10 minutes. One of the suspects asked the victim if she could use the victim’s cell phone to call her own cell phone which she claimed to have lost earlier that night. The victim passed her the phone but noticed some resistance when she tried to get it back.
The suspect reached out and suddenly hugged the victim; another suspect did the same to the friend. During these unexpected embraces the victim and her friend could feel both suspects attempting to pick pocket them and perusing through the victim’s purse. At this the point the group wandered off and the victim and friend went home to discover that the victim’s cell phone, ID card, debit card and keys were missing. The victim hesitated to call police for about 15 minutes.
Later on two other victims were walking in the same area and ran into the same group of 7 thieves. Instead of attempting to rob the victims with hugs the suspects pulled a black handgun on the two victims and ordered them to “drop everything on the ground”. After taking their cell phones and a wallet the suspects began punching and fighting with the two victims. Once they were done assaulting the victims the gang ran away to nearby cars and drove off in opposite directions.
The victims suffered bruising and bloody noses and refused medical attention at the scene. The suspects are still at large.
Threats and shoplifting at QFC
Officers responded to the QFC on the 2500 block of S.W. Barton St. on June 17 just before 7 p.m. to reports of a shoplifter standing outside with stolen merchandise in hand threatening to “slit the throat” of a female employee. When the officers arrived employees from the store were standing outside and pointing them towards a bus stop where the suspect had walked to. The suspect found and arrested while sitting in the bus shelter with an open bottle of wine in hand.
According to the victim she had seen the suspect taking merchandise and placing them into his jeans (he was wearing two pairs at the time) and told the suspect that she knew had stolen merchandise on him. As the suspect got closer to the exit with the merchandise he turned and looked at the victim and began to threaten her life and curse at her very loudly. While the suspect was crossing the parking lot to go to the bus shelter other employees watched and cautiously followed to keep track of where the suspect was heading.
The suspect was arrested and verified as the suspect in this incident by the victim.
