KENT - Kepe Bonner and Tyler Andrews of Mount Rainier earned a West Central/Southwest 4A bi-district boys tennis berth following play that began with South Puget Sound League North Division action on Oct. 9 at Kent Meridian High School.
After surviving the round of 32, the pair moved into the division crossover matches in the round of 16.
Bonner and Andrews began with a tough 6-3, 6-2, win against Sam Morman and Jacob Brown of Puyallup before Cameron Martin and Donavan Gomez of Thomas Jefferson sent the Ram pair into the consolation round, 6-1, 6-2.
Regrouping strongly, Bonner and Andrews were matched against another Puyallup pairing, this time the team of Connor Herriford and Jackson Hope, with a bi-district berth on the line.
This pairing forced the Ram pair into survival of the fittest mode with Bonner and Andrews out stroking the Vikings 6-3 in the first set. On and on the teams squared off in the second set. Using a late service break, the H & H tandem pulled out a 7-5 second set triumph.
Capitalizing on strong focus, the Mount Rainier top doubles team stormed to an early lead and just kept running up the score en route to a 6-0 third set win and a bi-district match beginning on Oct. 31 at the Capitol City Club in Tumwater. The Rams will be a No. 5-No. 8 seed depending the completion of matches in the SPSL tournament.
