Folk-blues legend Alice Stuart to perform in West Seattle on Friday
Wed, 10/22/2014
Folk and blues artist Alice Stuart brings her eloquent guitar and tough 'n' tender voice to Fauntleroy Church this Friday night (Oct. 24). The concert--part of the community's Sweet, Sweet Music series--will be held in the church's Fellowship Hall at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults ($8 for seniors).
The Seattle Times has called Stuart a "folk-blues treasure." Her career spans the Berkeley folk scene, the blues revival, and psychedelic rock. A tireless collaborator, Stuart has toured or played with Van Morrison, Joan Baez, Jerry Garcia, Frank Zappa, Albert King, Doc Watson, Phi Ochs, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Mississippi John Hurt, and many others. She was briefly a member of Zappa's band, the Mothers of Invention.
Along the way, Stuart has blazed a trail for women in blues and rock 'n' roll.
"There would be no Bonnie Raitt without Alice Stuart," said music historian and blues hall-of-famer Dick Waterman.
Stuart describes her brand of music as "American roots, pure and simple."
"We look forward to a wonderful evening of stories and songs," said Bronwyn Edwards, coordinator of the Sweet, Sweet Music series.
