Two teams on the move met at Highline Memorial Stadium Thursday, but only one managed to do much moving up and down the field.
Kennedy Catholic cruised to a 49-0 lead over Foster by halftime and held the margin through the second half for the win.
The Lancers clinched the Seamount League title thanks to that win and a 56-12 Hazen loss to Lindbergh on Friday.
They improved to 5-0 in Seamount League play and to 7-0 overall with one game to go -- a 7 p.m. Thursday meeting with Hazen -- the only other Class 3A team in the league -- at Renton Stadium.
"Here we play every game as important," said Kennedy head coach Bob Bourgette, whose team is still eyeing an undefeated regular season. "You just have to play your best against your opponent. It doesn't matter what the standings are."
Foster, meanwhile, is in a must-win situation.
The Bulldogs (2-3, 2-6) face off against Evergreen in a 7 p.m. home game Friday, and a win there would clinch a top three finish among the 2A teams in the Seamount League and send them to the postseason.
"We have to beat Evergreen to get an opportunity," said Foster head coach Matt Leonard.
A win over the Wolverines plus an expected Lindbergh win over Renton (3-2, 4-3) would force a tie for the No. 2 2A berth, with Foster getting the nod because of its regular season win over the Indians.
The No. 2 team goes straight into state action Nov. 7 or 8, while the No. 3 team must play a Nov. 4 game and win to get in.
Leonard would like to have knocked off Kennedy and clinched a berth Thursday, but it was not to be.
"I wish we could have put a better show on today, but they've got a good football team," he said.
Bourgette expected a closer game, too.
"It was a great win for us," Bourgette said. "Foster is a good football team. Our kids were fired up."
The Lancers came out on fire from the start.
They broke onto the scoreboard with 7:26 to play in the first quarter, when Dartanian Henry battled his way to the end zone on a left-side run from the 11-yard line.
Marco Calderon booted his first of seven successful extra point kicks after the score.
Junior Ngauamo struck for the next touchdown on a 9-yard run with 4:45 left in the quarter and Keannu Royster zigged and zagged his way for a 32-yard score at 3:37.
Jacob Thurber struck on a 19-yard quarterback keeper with 10:26 remaining in the second quarter before Ngauamu scored his second touchdown on a 10-yard run at 6:13.
Ngauamu added another touchdown at 5:11 on a 25-yard run up the middle, then Isaiah Ramirez put the final touchdown on the scoreboard at the 2:38 mark on an 8-yard run.
Foster, meanwhile, was held without a first down earned the entire first half -- and remained that way through a second half that was played on a constantly running clock on a mercy rule.
JFK had two long second half drives, one of which ended on a 38-yard field goal try that was wide right.
