Jason Stacy and Mick Shannon Garvey are the new owners of the Westside Public House at 4752 California Ave. SW. The new bar takes over the former A Terrible Beauty location but has been remade into a sports bar with multiple flat screens, a gaming arcade, 30 beers on tap, and a pool table.
When A Terrible Beauty Irish Pub closed in West Seattle in June it was unclear what would happen in the building at 4752 California Ave. SW. The former owners faced personal and financial issues that forced the closure of all of their restaurants. Now that question has been answered.
The Westside Public House will open, on Monday Nov. 10, looking somewhat similar to what it did but with some key differences. The new owners are a little familiar too.
Mick Shannon Garvey son of the former owner of A Terrible Beauty and Jason Stacy, who brings 27 years of restaurant experience (with 13 as a bartender) to the new venture, are the owners. The space will retain much of the look it's had since it was last remodeled since after all Mick did the majority of the design and construction. But it's being re-imagined as a sports bar open to 21 and over only.
The emphasis will be pulled from food and placed more on "sports and games," said Stacy. The menu will be smaller but still high quality. Now in the space are pinball machines (which will rotate out), a pool table, dart boards and more plus 8 flat screens (more are coming) and other video games. "It will be more of a bar and less of a restaurant," said Garvey.
The space will have less seating (some booths have been removed) at 85 seats but more than 100 can occupy the bar once it opens.
The Monday opening is essentially a soft open with a full on grand opening coming in the next two weeks.
It will be open from 4pm to 12am weekdays with weekends opening at 9am for the college games and soccer matches that have early starts, staying open to 2am.
The menu will feature "fried finger foods and a pretty serious special program, with rotating seasonal foods and a bunch of different burgers," said Stacy. The menu prices will run from $3 to $14. They are aiming at having a "90% scratch kitchen," Stacy explained.
The bar will have 30 beers on draft with an emphasis on local suppliers. Very few import beers will be offered.
It's still a full bar including cocktails but the liquors offered will be more "the kind of thing that sells in sports bars," explained Garvey.
The Westside Public House will use a system called Splango to stay in touch with and reward return customers. Visitors check in at a simple kiosk at the front and get rewards like discounts and free food after they've visited a few times. It also lets the bar stay in touch with customers, alerting them via text about new food or beverage specials.
The new owners hope to make the space a neighborhood hangout and plan on paying attention to the comments and customers. Stacy said he makes it a point to greet people as they come in the door and has a knack for remembering what people drink.
Stacy and Garvey will be the primary faces at the new bar with only a few others, to help keep costs under control as they get the business launched.
