This year's special presentation: The Buschmann Family
Join us for this fascinating glimpse into the lives of this powerful and dynamic family who were so instrumental in building the Alaska fishing industry.
Beginning with a very ambitious Peter Buschmann whose vision developed the city that would later be named Petersburg, Alaska in his honor.
The family’s tradition of hard work and dedication to the fishing industry carried on through Peter’s sons. One of the most well known, Eigil, built many canneries throughout Alaska. He worked with several prominent people including the famous Craig Miller, to develop what would be known as the Waterfall Cannery. A few years later Eigil joined forces with Haakan Friele to build the Hidden Inlet Cannery for the A&P Products Company.
From fishermen to businessmen, doctor, avid sportsmen and rescue pilot, the lives of the Buschmann families have enriched the history of Alaska and the Nakat Packing Company.
The Nakat Packing Historical Society is dedicated to celebrating the history, memories, stories and lives of the men and women of the Nakat Packing Company and the early days of the Alaskan fishing industry.
