Thief takes more than cookies
On Dec. 5 officers responded to a burglary at the 100 block of Northwest 82nd Street. The complainant told officers that after being gone for more than two days she arrived home and noticed that her back door had been blasted through. She reported that her home was in complete disarray, and that jewelry and a check book had been taken. Officers observed that the rear door had a shattered glass window. Police speculate that once the suspect broke the glass, the suspect reached in and unlocked the single bolt deadbolt. That entry point led to a laundry room where the suspect kicked through another door that was secured by a deadbolt. Once inside the suspect rummaged through closets and drawers. The suspect also dipped into the cookie jar, leaving the lid ajar. The value of the stolen items is estimated to be around $1100.
Suspect beats man with pipe
On Dec. 6 a man was assaulted at the intersection of 24th Avenue Northwest and Northwest 57th Street. Officers made contact with the victim at a local hospital. The victim told them that he was walking home when we heard someone rapidly walk up behind him. The victim was struck on the head and body with a pipe. The victim managed to fight off the attacker and locate a store. He called his wife and after they noticed the severity of his injuries, he was rushed to the hospital. The victim sustained scratches, abrasions, lumps on his head and a pipe-welt on his back. The victim did not get a good look at the suspect and believes the suspect confused him for another man. The victim was treated for his injuries and sent home. Officers searched the area, but without a description, the suspect was never found.
