Man chases down burglar on S.W. Stevens
Shortly before 1 p.m. on Jan.8 police received a call from a man informing them that he was in his truck and in pursuit of a burglar who he had caught stealing mail. Despite being asked to give up the chase the man kept tailing the suspect as he ran multiple blocks in an attempt to get away. Police made contact with the man in an alleyway near 63 Ave. S.W. and S.W. Admiral WY where he lost the suspect.
The man explained to the officers that he had confronted the suspect, described as a short statured 32-year-old Hispanic male with a black pony tail, when he witnessed him stealing mail from a secured mailbox in front of his home on the 6000 block of S.W. Stevens St. Chasing the suspect down on foot the man shook the suspect at which point multiple bottles of prescription acne lotion fell out of his sleeves. The suspect began begging the man not to call police because he had drugs in his backpack. As the man brought his cell phone up to take a picture of the suspect he took off running.
Following the suspect in his truck the man managed to keep on him as he ran between houses and alleyways, threw his stolen goods into recycling cans, and ran through multiple yards.
Police immediately shut the area down and began searching for the suspect with a K-9 unit, eventually finding the suspect hiding in a treehouse.
Going through the suspect’s backpack officers retrieved stolen mail from multiple residences, a fanny pack, women’s multi-vitamins, protein shake formula, more bottles of acne medication, women’s red spandex underwear, keys that had been shaven to break into vehicle, stolen checks, and a stolen wallet among many other items. Officers managed to connect some of the stolen goods to previous reports including one where the victim had caught the suspect on film stealing her Amazon package.
The suspect was booked into the King County Jail on investigation for burglary as well as an outstanding for Escape from Community Custody out of Olympia.
Fighting in the laundry room
A fight broke out between two tenants staying at a boarding house on the 8100 block of 12 Ave. S.W on Jan. 11. A third tenant was a witness to the entire altercation and provided police with information at the scene.
Shortly after 7 p.m. the victim and the suspect were arguing in a shared laundry room over using the dryer. The argument turned violent when the suspect grabbed the victim by his arm, pulled him in, and wrapped him up in a headlock. The victim later claimed to the officers that the suspect had first threatened him with a kitchen knife which he set on the dryer before executing his move. When speaking with officers the victim complained of feeling sore in the neck and having a capped tooth loosened during the fight.
The third witness came forward after he heard both men giving their accounts, with the suspect claiming to have never touched the victim. This witness explained that he saw the arm pull and the headlock but never saw a knife at any time before or after. The suspect was arrested without incident and booked into the King County Jail on a charge of Assault.
