A map of the route and closures for the Seahawks send-off on Jan.25. The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
The road to the Super Bowl begins in SeaTac this Sunday. Here are a few key events and notices to excite and inform every “12th Man” in the area:
• Sunday Jan. 25 the Seahawks are encouraging all fans to come out and send the team off along S. 188th St. (along the 1.1 mile stretch between 28th Ave. S. and 46 Ave. S.). The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. with team buses passing through the crowd.
• Parking for the event will be available at the Tyee Educational Complex, SeaTac City Hall, Angle Lake Park, Alaska Airlines Headquarters, Bow Lake Elementary School, Chinook Middle School, and the paid parking lot at the SeaTac Airport.
• Closures: I-5 off ramps at exit #152 with no access onto S. 188 St. from the freeways during the event, S. 188 St. closed in both directions at 8:30 a.m., International Blvd. in both directions closed at 9:15 a.m.
• Due to construction pedestrian access will be restricted at Air Cargo Road (28th Ave. S.)
• Due to TSA security restrictions fans will not be able to view the team boarding the aircraft
• Staging areas at the VMAC (Virginia Mason Athletic Center) training facility in Renton as well as all access roads will be closed prior to the team leaving.
• The King County Sheriff’s office is encouraging all fans to carpool and to be respectful of residential driveways in the area.
• Fun fact: Many friendly wagers have been bandied about on social media (see the Chris Pratt / Chris Evans bet) for Super Bowl XLIX including one from the King County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff John Urquart has made an agreement with Suffolk County (MA) Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins concerning the big game. If the Seahawks win Tompkins will send a dozen lobster tail pastries from Luberto’s Bakery in Revere, MA. If the Patriots win Urquart will send cupcakes from Cupcake Royale and chocolates from Fran’s Chocolates. “The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department and the New England Patriots may have a strong history, but the Seahawks and the 12th Man have destiny on their side. No fan of the Seahawks will ever lose faith in our team’s ability to win the big game,” said Urquhart.
