Both teams struggled shooting, but, the Shorewood Christian Lions struggled a whole lot more, and, it led to a Saints runaway, 33-14, in 1B action at Chinook Middle School in Sea-Tac.
In the Sea-Tac B League, the Saints improved to 4-3, fifth place, currently, in league, and, they are in the thick of things for the playoffs. And, the Lions are going to make the postseason, too, with a 2-4 record, good enough for one spot back from the Saints.
"I thought we played pretty good defense, especially when they had their point guard try and go down the middle," said Bruce Carlson, Saints coach.
The Lions, based in White Center, are led by their point guard, Rosie Young, whom Carlson was referring. She is an eighth grader, but, allowed to play on varsity per WIAA rules. This season, Young has moved the ball around well, and, scores quickly a fair number of times in games. But, in this game, the Saints defense was stout, holding Young to just four points, a few points below her average. Meanwhile, the Saints were led by its point guard, junior, Abbi Sanders, their team's leading scorer in games this season, who led all scorers with 16 points.
The Lions' Shelaine Lorenz, that team's 5-8 freshnman center, scored the game's first two points before it was all Saints after that, with a 7-4, first quarter ending, a 17-6, score at halftime, a 25-8 scored after the third, and, then, the final number of a 19-point difference after the fourth.
For the Saints, contributing to Sanders double-digit scoring, juniors, Emma Figgins and Taylor Stordahl, scored six apiece.
