Tue, 04/07/2015
April 1, Think Through Learning, authors of Think Through Math (TTM), the award-winning web-based math instructional system for grades 3 and above, joined students and teachers at Parkside Elementary School to honor 4th grade student Austin Corwin and his nominating teacher, Meagan Fleming as one of 15 national winners of its “Students Love Math” contest. Austin and Ms. Fleming will be recognized during a special award presentation at the school:
All students and faculty were present for award presentation from school Principal, Robin Lamoureaux and Ellen Dorr, District Learning Technology Manager.
Held during the month of February, “Students Love Math” called upon educators from across the country to nominate students who embody consistent effort, hard work and a love of math even when faced with challenges.
A math whiz who consistently performed above grade level, Austin Corwin was becoming less engaged and losing interest in the math that the rest of his class was learning. When Ms. Fleming enrolled her class in Think Through Math, Austin’s aptitude and excitement for math was quickly restored. Ms. Fleming’s nomination read in part, “In the beginning of the year his effort was fading, his engagement dropping, and he certainly wasn’t showing math progress as he was already at the top of his class. TTM has changed his attitude completely and made it so that math is not only fun again for him, but it pushes him to new heights “
Each winning student and nominating teacher received an Amazon gift card, a Think Through Math commemorative certificate and T-shirt and recognition on the Think Through Math website, THINK Blog and monthly newsletter.
