Dog, guns and cash taken in armed robbery
Two armed robbers stole several handguns, cash and a puppy from a man living on the 8600 block of 35 Ave. S.W. last week. The incident occurred just after midnight as the victim was returning home with his dog from his girlfriend’s house.
After parking under his van in the carport the victim was ambushed by two men, one white and one Hispanic, with handguns. The suspects ordered the man inside and forced him to lead them to a safe. Inside the safe were several guns, one of which the victim contemplated making a move for to turn the tables on the robbers. He quickly decided against this once he felt the barrel of one of the suspect’s guns against the back of his head.
The suspects gave the man a fake leather bag which he filled with handguns and $30K in cash. One of the suspect said to the victim “where’s the rest of the money, I was told you had a lot more”. The victim then took the suspects to a second safe where more guns, an AR15 and 2 handguns, were stored. After collecting these the suspects also took the video monitor for the security cameras that the victim has around his house. Using shoe laces one of the suspects then tied the victim’s wrists before both suspects slipped out the door.
Once free the victim immediately began searching for his dog, which was also grabbed during the robbery. The victim found his dog about an hour later and then called police. The suspects remain at large.
Clerk robbed at gunpoint on Avalon
A clerk working alone at a store on the 3200 block of S.W. Avalon WY was robbed by an armed suspect just after 2 a.m. on April 22. Officers are currently working to collect and review security footage from the store.
The victim had just stepped out from the cashier enclosure inside the store to mop the floor when the suspect entered the store. Coming up behind the clerk the suspect held a gun to the middle back of the victim and ordered him to take him inside the cashier’s enclosure.
As the victim pulled out the money from the till the suspect noticed the jewelry that the clerk was wearing and ordered him to turn it over. After taking the victim’s jewelry the suspect began stuffing his pockets with packs of cigarillos.
Once the suspect had gathered everything he made a run for the front door spilling a pack of quarters and littering the floor with multiple packs of cigarillos. As he rushed outside he triggered the security alarms inside the store with his pockets of merchandise.
An area search for the suspect turned up negative. A K-9 unit tracked the suspect’s scent to an alleyway a few blocks east of the store. The suspect remains at large at this time.
