Highline 5, Sammamish 2
Highline's Pirates opened the West Central District Class 2A tournament by scoring a 5-2 victory over Sammamish on Friday morning.
The tournament runs through Saturday at the Sprinker Recreation Center in Spanaway.
Fife 10, Evergreen 0
The Wolverines of Evergreen fell to Fife by a 10-0 score in their WCD 2A opener at Sprinker.
Evergreen must win three loser-out games in a row now to qualify for one of six state berths.
Columbia River 11, Kennedy 10
Friday's early afternoon one-run loss to Columbia River left the Lancers needing three-straight wins to qualify for next week's state 3A tournament in Lacey.
The 3A West Central District tournament is also being played at Sprinker through Saturday.
Orting 12, Highline 0
The Pirates were blanked in a game for a state tournament berth played Friday afternoon.
Highline can still reach state with back-to-back wins starting with an 11 a.m. Saturday contest.

Boys soccer
Snohomish 2, Mt. Rainier 1
Mount Rainier journeyed all the way to Snohomish Stadium for its state Class 4A tournament opener Wednesday and came away with a narrow loss to the home team.

Bellarmine 3, Kennedy 2
Kennedy Catholic took a 3-2 loss at Bellarmine High School in Tacoma in a postseason tuneup Wednesday.

Sea-King District
The West Seattle girls doubles duo of Lacayo and Carow opened the Sea-King District 2 tournament on the right foot, defeating Skrobut and Battison of Holy Names by a 6-4, 6-2 score.
That wrapped up a berth into next week's state tournament, even though the Wildcats lost their next two matches to finish fourth.
They were defeated by Hamilton and Sweet of Mercer Island, 6-1, 6-2, before losing to Larson and Lang of Interlake, retired.

Golf
Class 1A Boys
Luke Doss of Seattle Christian School tied for second place in the Class 1A West Central District boys state qualifying tournament Tuesday, turning in an 18-hole round of 83 at the Gold Mountain complex near Bremerton.
Doss is bound for the state 1A tournament to be held this coming Wednesday and Thursday at the Sun Willows course in Pasco.
Monday, May 18
Class 3A Girls
Addie Hedge of Kennedy Catholic qualified for this coming Wednesday and Thursday state action, taking third in the Class 3A West Central District girls state qualifying tournament with an 18-hole round of 92.
The tournament took place at Gold Mountain near Bremerton, while the state tournament will be held at Horn Rapids Golf Course in Richland.
Teammate Emily Porter came in 20th in the qualifier with a round of 111 to miss the state cut.
Class 4A Girls
Two Mount Rainier golfers came up three strokes shy of state out of the Class 4A qualifier held at Gold Mountain on Monday.
Taylor Prkut and Amanda Inthavong tied for 13th place with rounds of 98.
