Garnett and Kim crowned as double champions

Ariell Garnett of Kennedy Catholic and Abi Kim of Seattle Christian captured two championships apiece to highlight area performances in state track and field meets held throughout Washington this past week.
Joining them in the winner's circle were one-time champions Caroline Tupa of Evergreen, Aiden Basco of Mount Rainier and Evan Shimasaki of Seattle Christian.
Garnett and Kim both won the 100 and 200-meter dash in their respective classifications.
Garnett took the Class 3A 100 in a time of 12.29 seconds and won the 200 in 25.27, while Kim won the Class 1A 100 in 12.77 and the 200 in 25.64.
Kim also took second in the long jump at 18 feet, 6.75 inches and ran on Seattle Christian's 1,600 meter relay that made the finals and snagged seventh place in 4:23.48.
The Class 2A, 3A and 4A competitions were held at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma while the 1B, 2B and 1A action was at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
The action ran from Thursday through Saturday in both locations.
Tupa, meanwhile, won the 2A discus with an effort of 129 feet, 7.00 inches and also took fourth in the shot put at 40-02.00.
Basco bagged the Class 4A 300-meter low hurdles title in a time of 37.85 and also took third in the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.45, while Shimasaki took the 1A pole vault at 15-00.00 and was also 14th in the long jump at 19-08.75.
Taking third place state finishes were Macey Crooks of Seattle Lutheran and Riley Scocco of Shorewood Christian.
Crooks cleared 8-9.00 in the girls Class 1B pole vault and Scocco threw the discus 103.07.00 in further Class 1B girls competition.
Shakila Omar of Foster finished fourth in the 2A girls 400-meter run with a 58.69 effort and Parker Boyd of Shorewood Christian was fourth in the boys 1B 400 in 52.34.
Chief Sealth took fifth in the 3A girls 400-meter relay with a time of 49.79 and Rachelle Mayes of Seattle Christian came in fifth in the girls 1A 800-meter run in 2:26.61.
Seattle Lutheran's Taylor Stordahl place fifth in the girls 1B 200-meter dash with a time of 28.93.
Snapping up sixth place finishes were Chaaka Trahan in the 3A boys 110-meter high hurdles in 15.56, Scocco in the girls 1B shot put at 32-02.75, Stordahl in the girls 1B 100-meter dash in 13.87 and Quin Malo of Shorewood Christian in the boys 1A shot put at 39-04.50.
West Seattle's Lani Taylor came in seventh in the 400 in 57.93 and Boyd was eighth in the boys 1B 200 in 24.82
Cecila Vu of Evergreen placed ninth in the 3,200 in 11:29.19 and 10th in the 1,600 in 5:18.56, while Matthew Chacon of the Wolverines placed ninth in the boys 3,200 in 9:39.89. Chacon was also 15th in the 1,600 in 4:31.30 and twin brother Marques Chacon came in 14th in the 3,200 in 9:52.03.
Theo Mowatt of Evergreen took 10th in the boys 2A triple jump at 42-00.50, while athletes coming in 11th in finals were Highline's A'Jenae Hardwell in the girls 2A shot put at 33-11.00, Eric Teng of Foster in the boys 2A discus at 128-07.00 and Michael Crawford of Seattle Lutheran in the boys 1B pole vault at 7-06.00.
Natalie Fuller of West Seattle took 12th in the girls 3A triple jump at 33-09.50 and Matthew Smith of Seattle Lutheran was 12th in the boys 1B javelin at 125-08.
Stordahl was 13th in the girls 1B long jump at 13-10.00 and 15th in the triple jump at 28-06.00.
Emily Chanthaphone of Foster tied for 13th in the girls 2A pole vault at 9-00.00 and Sophia Cassam of Highline was 15th in the same event at the same height only in more jumps.
West Seattle's Lexi Ione finished 15th in the girls 3A shot put at 31-09.75 and the Wildcats' Trahan took 15th in the boys triple jump at 19-07.75.
Lorna Sailiai of Chef Sealth came in 16th in the girls 3A shot put behind Ione at 31-009.00.
