More than 1000 elementary school students were present for an event staged by the Southwest Seattle Historical Society on June 5 that they called "A Group Hug for the Homestead."

The event featured Seattle City Councilmember Tom Rasmussen, King County Executive Dow Constantine, Alki Elementary principal Shannon Stanton and Schmitz Park assistant principal Liora Minkin.

A photo of those gathered was taken by Jean Sherrard from a vantage point on a lift truck some 25 feet up.

New owner of the Homestead, Dennis Schilling was also introduced.
