West Seattle won its way to Woodinville with a 13-3 win over PacWest Wednesday.
The District 7 Majors age 11-12 Little League all-star baseball championship win over the Burien and SeaTac-based team was the third in a row for the Westsiders -- including a 2-0 victory over PacWest in the winner's bracket final Saturday.
With the win in the four-team tournament that also included South Highline National and Renton the West Seattle contingent earned its charter's second-straight Majors state appearance.
Last year's tournament was played at West Seattle's own Bar-S complex, while this year's tournament takes place at the Northwest Athletic Fields in Woodinville.
Max Debiec, who faced all but the final two batters in Wednesday's game that was stopped after the fifth inning by a 10-run rule, was one of the players who went to state Majors last year.
"Last year we lost to Pacific, the team that went to the World Series, so hopefully we'll get revenge on them if they also make it to state," Debiec said. "Hopefully we'll do well there, too, and represent everyone from District 7."
Jasper Mors hit two home runs in Wednesday's game but was not on the Majors team last year.
"I think we're going to do really well," said Mors, who did reach state-level play at a younger level two years ago.
It was the end of the road this year for a PacWest team that hoped for a second close game against the Westsiders. It looked like that would happen early, only in a slugfest instead of a pitcher's duel.
West Seattle scored two runs in the top of the first on a two-out double by Diego Contratto, then PacWest answered in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run by River Garcia to tie it up again.
The Westsiders broke away a bit with a five-run top of the second.
Nat Ardales, Reece McAllister and Spencer Burgess singled in order for the first run of the rally, then Chase Eldredge singled to load the bases for Debiec, who lofted an RBI sacrifice fly.
Mors, the catcher, followed up by blasting a three-run home run to center field to make it 7-2.
PacWest got one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning as Max Volle launched a solo home run to left field, before West Seattle scored five more in the third with the help of singles by Gabe Palmer, JP Dufour, Eldredge, Debiec and Mors.
Mors tacked on a solo home run in the top of the fifth to right field and Debiec settled down to shut out PacWest the rest of the way with the help of Jayden Sadis getting the final two outs.
Debiec finished with nine strikeouts and Sadis struck out one of the two batters he faced.
"My curveball was working, but usually it's my fastball," said Debiec. "They got two home runs off of my fastball, so I changed to the curve and it ended up working."
"It was a great team win for us tonight," said coach Brian Pare, who assisted manager Stan Debiec along with Steve Joseph. "We're jelling at the right time. We're excited about state, about the next step. We've got good teammates and good chemistry."
Mors sees other keys.
"Just good pitching and good batting," he said.
Players for the West Seattle team are Nat Ardales, Spencer Burgess, Diego Contratto, Max Debiec, JP Dufour, Chase Eldredge, Dylan Mastroianni, Reece McAllister, Jasper Mors, Gabe Palmer, Sam Pare, Nate Rasmussen and Jaden Sadis.
PacWest was managed by Clyde Garcia, who was assisted by coaches Forrest Hillyard and Jeff Macias.
PacWest players this year were Brandon Borner, Antonio Frounfelter, River Garcia, Tyler Gilpatrick, Hunter Hillyard, Ryder Leahy, Jaden Macias, William McDonald, Ezequiel Pestana-Cruz, Emma Peterson, Michael Snyder, Max Volle and Alex Whitman.
