Who will District 6 elect for the city council seat? Well, a voter’s guide from the Municipal League of King County might help voters decide.
The MLKC just released this year’s candidate ratings, which evaluates over 80 candidates running for office in King County.

In case readers need a refresher, District 6 stretches from I-5 just past Green Lake all the way to Golden Gardens, and as far north as NW 105th Street and south to the north side of Aurora Avenue North (north side of bridge).
The District has been called the “heart of educated, liberal Seattle,” and has about 80,000 residents.
The league rated candidates over a recent four-week period. They state that the ratings are not endorsements, but rather evaluations of how effective the candidates would be in office and serving the community.
MLKC rates candidates as “outstanding” to “not qualified,” and “insufficient information” for those who did not participate.
The ratings are derived from the league measuring the candidates’ responses to five questions, which include why they are running for office and what past experiences could lend to their role in office. They are also asked to describe the duties of the office they seek.
These questions were evaluated by the below criteria:
Involvement: What has the candidate done previously in family, neighborhood, community, volunteer work, employment or public life to suggest readiness to accomplish challenging objectives? How do these activities demonstrate readiness for the challenges unique to the office sought?
Effectiveness: Has the candidate demonstrated promise of being productive in the office sought? Has the candidate shown the ability to work with other people?
Character: Do the candidate's personal traits show the ability to take on the responsibilities of campaigning for and holding the public office she or he is seeking? Is the candidate a leader, participant or observer? Is the candidate trustworthy, reliable and candid?
Knowledge: Has the candidate demonstrated the willingness and ability to learn and adapt? Does the candidate understand the duties and challenges of the office sought? Does the candidate have a firm grasp of the issues important to his or her constituency and their potential effects?
This year the primary election will be on August 4 and ballots will be mailed out on July 21.
