Zagat says 4 out of 10 of the best burgers in Seattle are here; Swinery voted number 1
Thu, 11/05/2015
Travel authority Zagat has posted a list of the 10 Best Burgers in Seattle and West Seattle/White Center restaurants dominated with four out of the ten making the list.
Voted number one was The Swinery. Here's what Zagat said:
"1. The Swinery
Butcher Shop West Seattle
At this tiny West Seattle butcher shop, one thing you won't find in the display cases is the "expertly prepared" burger.
Must-Order: The Swinery burger ($11) is made with one-third pound of fluffy in-house ground beef, creamy caramelized onions, and housemade crunchy pickles. Pick your cheese — there's cheddar, provolone, blue or Swiss — and always get the Swinery sauce. Add house-cured bacon ($2) or crispy pork belly ($3) for even more meaty goodness.

Coming in at number four was the undeniably unique Zippy's Giant Burgers in White Center:
"4. Zippy's Giant Burgers
Burger White Center
With locations in White Center and Georgetown, this retro joint starts with beef that's ground in-house daily, expertly salted and then crisped on a hot griddle. Bring your vegetarian friends too; Zippy's has a black bean burger that's no joke.
Must-Order: The Crown burger ($8) is a behemoth fit for a king; the beef gets topped with a mound of tissue-thin pastrami, Swiss cheese, bread-and-butter pickles and slathered with secret sauce. It's "perfect in every way."
9614 14th Ave. SW; 206-763-1347
5633 Airport Way S.; 206-466-5954 "
Skipping down to number eight local steakhouse favorite Zaks was chosen:
"8. Jak's Grill
Steakhouse West Seattle
Whether you're in Issaquah, West Seattle or Laurelhurst, Jak's Grill has all the comforts of a favorite neighborhood spot, albeit one that takes its corn-fed, Nebraska-raised beef seriously. Expect patties made from 28-day aged beef and, occasionally, a line out the door right around happy hour.
Must-Order: Dubbed "famous," the Jak’s burger ($14) is one for purists, "simple, but delicious." It’s a half-pound loose patty served on a buttered bun with lettuce, tomato, onion and a smear of roasted red pepper mayo. Add cheese for a buck. Come during happy hour Monday–Friday and a burger and fries runs $6."
Rounding out the local list at number nine was the popular Ma'Ono:
"9. Ma'ono
American West Seattle
Most people find themselves at this West Seattle Hawaiian spot for the fried chicken and whiskey, but if you've got beef on the brain, don't miss the much-raved-about burger from the wood-burning grill.
Must-Order: The Ma'ono beef burger ($15) starts off with a griddled sesame English muffin and continues with a one-third pound applewood-smoked patty. There's also housemade bacon, a mixture of two local cheeses and a dollop of special sauce. Iceberg lettuce adds a bit of crunch to finish things off and fries come on the side.
