Highline takes 10th in state swimming

Highline's Pirates paddled to a 10th place state finish at the Class 2A girls swimming and diving state meet held at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way on Saturday, scoring 101 points.
Kennedy Catholic came in 13th in Class 3A action with a point total of 54 and Mount Rainier placed 31st in the 4A competition with 12 points.
Highline opened the 2A meet in the morning by securing sixth place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 57.98 seconds then had Emily Zacharias come in sixth in the 200 individual medley in 2:18.89.
Reva Zacharias then came through with a third place finish in the 100 butterfly in 59.57 and the Pirates placed eighth in the 200 freestyle relay finals with a time of 1:46.81.
Reva Zacharias snagged seventh in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.86 and Emily Zacharias was seventh in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.12.
Angela Gagliardo scored the highest local finish for Kennedy Catholic in the 3A meet held in the afternoon, posting a 1:04.65 for second place in the 100 breaststroke.
The Kennedy 200 medley relay team finished 13th in 1:57.52 and the Lancers' 400 free relay was 14th in 3:50.47.
Angelica Gil placed 19th in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.93.
The Lancers also had two divers in the meet.
Madeline Kemp finished 14th in the preliminaries with 130.80 points and Maddie Terry took 26th with 95.85.
For Mount Rainier in the 4A meet held Saturday evening, Rachel Beal took 20th in 2:18.68.
