Four students from Mount Rainer High School in Des Moines have been charged in connection to the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl during an overnight school field trip to Seattle last fall.
Donnie Ray Moore and Keegan J. Tarabochia, also known as Keegan Piper, both 18-years-old, along with two other seniors who remain unnamed because of their juvenile status, were charged with third-degree rape and supplying liquor to a minor, by the King County Prosecutor’s Office.
The alleged rape took place last October 25-27 on a chaperoned, three-day trip to a DECA conference for leadership and business-oriented students at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel. 24 students attended the conference along with multiple adult chaperones who were responsible for bed-time checks as well as random room checks.
According to the King County Prosecutor’s Office, two 15-year-old girls were invited to one of the senior’s rooms on the night of October 26. The two girls reported that the boys gave them shots of vodka and whiskey and that soon after they felt “totally out of it” and unable to walk. The boys then told them to lie down on the bed and both girls fell asleep.
When the girls woke up, they claim that the four boys were kissing and touching them. The victim listed in the charging documents told police that three of the seniors “cycled through me” as they repeatedly had sex with her. She repeatedly told the boys no. All four seniors are charged with raping her.
The second victim told police that two of the males repeatedly had sex with her and that she “felt like she had to go along with the boys and she believed that they would have sex with her even if she said no.” She was not listed in rape charges.
The victims report that they were taken back to their rooms and told by Tarabochia not to tell anyone what happened. They attended the rest of the DECA sessions and both reported the incident to relatives when they returned home on October 27. The victims were taken to the hospital before reporting the incident to the police.
According to charging papers, when Highline Public School staff interviewed three of the suspects following the police report, Moore claimed that two of the others had consensual sex with the girls but he didn’t. Tarabochia claimed he had sex with one of the girls but it was consensual. All four suspects declined to be interviewed by officers but three obtained attorneys.
All four suspects are scheduled to be arraigned on February 24.
