Knife-wielding suspect unfazed by rock to face
Officers responded to an assault on March 10 at the intersection of N.W. 85th Street and 15th Avenue N.W. The victim told officers that he was getting off the bus when a man asked him if he had a “problem.” He said “No.” Then the suspect ran at the victim and dropkicked him in the chest, knocking him to the ground. A motorist stopped and asked if the victim needed help. The suspect ran off. The victim said he was fine, got up and kept walking. Fearing his life, he picked up a rock in case the suspect came back. The suspect did come back and ran at the victim. The victim threw the rock at the suspect and hit him in the forehead, but the suspect kept coming. The victim ran to his apartment and called police. Officers found the suspect and arrested him. They brought him to the victim for a show-up identification. He was positively identified. The suspect denied the allegations and said the victim threw a rock at him for no reason, so he chased him. The suspect had a large gash on his forehead from the rock the victim threw. He was transported to a nearby hospital. While being loaded into the ambulance, emergency personnel found a 7½-inch kitchen knife in the suspect’s sock. When the suspect was first contacted he said he did not have a knife. SPD did not report any arrests.
