Sealth's Assa Kaba wins two state events

Assa Kaba of Chief Sealth captured first place in two events to lead the area performances in state high school track and field meets held Memorial Day weekend.
Kaba won the Class 3A girls 100-meter dash in a time of 12.58 seconds, edging out the 12.62 time of Kennedy Catholic's Ariell Garnett.
Kaba also took the 200 with a 24.90 effort.
Lani Taylor of West Seattle also came through with a win in the state Class 3A action, taking the 400 in 55.74.
Taylor was also third in the 200 in 25.40 and fifth in the 100 in 12.86.
The Class 4A, 3A and 2A meets took place at Mount Tahoma High School May 26-28, while the Class 1A, 2B and 1B action was held at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
Evan Shimasaki of Seattle Christian won the Class 1A boys pole vault in Cheney, clearing a height of 15 feet, 6.00 inches, and Shorewood Christian of West Seattle won the 1B boys 1,600-meter relay in a time of 3 minutes, 34.70 seconds.
Shimasaki was also fourth in the long jump at 21-03.25 with teammate Xavier Turner seventh at 19-06.00.
Seattle Lutheran of West Seattle came in second in the girls 1B 800-meter relay in 1:52.41 and Macey Crooks of the Saints was second in the girls pole vault at 8-06.00.
Seattle Lutheran was also third in the girls 400 relay in 53.08 and sixth in the boys 400 relay in 46.52.
Riley Scocco of Shorewood Christian placed fifth in the girls 1B shot put at 32-03.00 and teammate Quin Malo was sixth in the boys 1B shot put at 41-05.74.
Taylor Stordahl of Seattle Lutheran finished fifth in the girls 100 in 13.69 and seventh in the 200 in 28.69.
Parker Boyd of Shorewood Christian came in sixth in the boys 200 in 24.09 and eighth in the 100 in 12.01.
Back at Mount Tahoma in the higher classifications, Chaaka Trahan took second for West Seattle in the 3A boys 110 hurdles in 14.72 and third in the long jump at 23-02.25.
Zane Jacobson of Foster took second in the boys 2A javelin at 170-08 and teammate Eric Tang took eighth in the same event at 156-07.
Cass Elliott of West Seattle captured second in the 3A boys 300 hurdles in a time of 39.10.
Chief Sealth was third in the 3A girls 800 relay in 1:43.71 and Shakila Omar of Foster finished third in the 2A girls 400-meter run in 59.09.
Madeline Fletcher of Mount Rainier finished fifth in the girls 4A discus at 119-08 and teammate Amy Yoshino was fifth in the high jump at 5-03.00.
Mount Rainier's Bryant Welch was sixth in the 4A boys 400 in 50.63 and teammate Austin Reiger seventh in the 800 in 1:58.37.
Quinn Wiley of Chief Sealth secured sixth in the 3A girls 300 hurdles in 46.15.
Ryan Thol of Evergreen was seventh in the 2A boys 110 hurdles in 15.69 and Kennedy's Allison Zubeck was seventh in the 3A girls 100 hurdles in 15.81.
Marques Chacon of Evergreen ran to eighth place in the 2A boys 1,600-meter run in 4:25.85.
