Suspect found sleeping with handgun on shuttle

Officers Michael Sudduth and Todd Wiebke boarded a shuttle bus on the 1600 block of Harbor Avenue S.W. around 3:15 p.m., Thurs., June 16 to find a passenger who had fallen asleep. When asked to leave, the man waved them off and went back to sleep.

After officer Wiebke tried to rouse the man again, shaking his shoulder, he only rolled over onto his side— revealing a handgun in his waistband. The police quickly arrested him and took his gun.

Although someone had tried to scratch off the serial number on the weapon, officers were still able to decipher it, which helped them discover that the gun was reported stolen last year in Kent. Police also learned the suspect is a convicted felon, unable to legally possess firearms. They booked the man into the King County Jail for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Attempted robbery at vacant house

Around 7:30 a.m., Mon., June 13, police were dispatched after a call about a burglary of a residence on the 7100 block of 31th Avenue S.W. Two men had been seen walking around a vacant house and trying to enter the back door.

Officers walked around the perimeter of the house and found shattered glass in the pane on the back door. They then entered the home and conducted a search for suspects inside but found no one.

Officers spoke to a neighbor who had seen two white males in the back yard of the
vacant house earlier in the morning. She said that one man was about 6 feet tall with short hair and an unshaven face. He wore a jean vest and jeans.

She said the other man was about 5 ft. 8 in. tall with shoulder length brown hair, wearing dark clothing.

Police combed the area but found no one matching the description.

Teen arrested after showing firearm to friends

Police arrested a 16-year-old boy Fri., June 10 in West Seattle after he reportedly showed off a stolen handgun to his friends.

Police received a report about the incident around 9:30 a.m. The teen was on the 8600 block of 24th Avenue S.W. at the intersection of S.W. Cloverdale. According to the 911 caller, the suspect had flashed a handgun in his waistband, pulled out the clip and then pulled the trigger of the empty weapon.

Police notified nearby Denny Middle School and Chief Sealth High Schools about the incident and began searching for the 16-year-old. Within nine minutes of the initial call, officers found the gun stashed in the brush around the 8400 block of 26th Avenue S.W. The weapon had been reported stolen in Snohomish County. Police found and arrested the 16-year-old and booked him into the King County Youth Service Center for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Liquor theft from store

Around 1:30 p.m., Mon., June 13, the assistant manager at a store located on the 2600 block of California Avenue contacted police to report a theft. When starting his morning shift, the man discovered that one of the locked alcohol cabinet doors was open and alcohol was lying on the ground nearby. Then, he noticed that several bottles of high value alcohol were missing, totaling $356 in value.

Surveillance footage revealed that the incident occurred at 3:34 a.m. It showed that two suspects walked to the front of the liquor aisle, then pried open a locked door, took several bottles and placed them in their backpacks.

Police found no visible damage observed to the cabinet door, lock or frame. Officers placed a copy of surveillance into evidence.
