Tenth annual Duwamish River Festival will celebrate the community Aug. 20

On Saturday, August 20, 2016, the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition/TAG will host the city's 10th Anniversary of the Duwamish River Festival / Festival del Río Duwamish at Duwamish Waterway Park (7900 10th Avenue S.) in the South Park neighborhood in partnership with the planning committee, and a diverse group of government, business, and community sponsors (see the bottom of the news advisory for a full list of sponsors).
The festival is a family-friendly event and will focus on celebrating the efforts to improve the health of the Duwamish River and the communities of South Park and Georgetown! During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to: learn about the Duwamish River Superfund site; engage with interactive booths featuring environmental and community health resources and projects in the Duwamish Valley; listen and dance to performances representing diverse cultures of Georgetown and South Park; enjoy free food from local restaurants; participate in free boat and kayak tours of the river; create art reflecting the river and the community; share your story about the river in a photo booth; and so much more!
WHERE: South Park neighborhood of Seattle, 7900 10th Avenue South, at Duwamish Waterway Park.
WHEN: 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016
WHO: Our lineup includes:
· Banda Vagos; Seattle’s premiere Banda for the past 15 years, featuring musicians from Mexico and the U.S.
· Ballet Folklorico de Angeles de Mexico
· Trio Dance from the Vietnamese community
· University of Washington Khmer Student Association
· Zumba and Boot camp aerobic dancing right in the middle of the park!
· SANCA, acrobatics and circus school based right in Georgetown
· Sandra Maqueda, Latino leader and radio host, as the day’s MC
· And the Duwamish Tribe opening the day!
