Healthy Life: Recipe for a balanced summer
Mon, 08/15/2016
Balance. It is tough to find in this day and age of our busy schedules, work, kids, and other life obligations. If you are like me the calendar is already packed well into the Fall with weekend events, trips, preschool planning, and more. Balance. It takes effort and careful planning just like anything else does. Finding balance in life is an important goal. In the MomMD article "A Balanced Life," by Natalie Gahrmann she wrote about the importance of balance. "Living a balanced life is about integrating those components of your life that are truly important to you and realizing that sometimes you need to make choices about what has to come first. Making choices is powerful and allows you to live a balanced life that's aligned with what you value."
A great starting point for finding balance in life is to focus on making healthy choices for your body and mind. It is very important to practice regular detoxing from the things that sap the energy and life out of you. It is okay to say no, stop overcommitting, have a staycation, put your phone away. Have you heard about technology detoxing? What a great idea! Turn your phone off after 6pm at night, limit your time on social media, or if you are feeling very adventurous try going a whole day without any technology! Here are some other great ideas for your own recipe for a balanced summer:
1) 10,000 Steps (walk your dog, take the stairs, go for a run)
2) 80 oz of water (take your water bottle everywhere and infuse it with cucumbers, lemon, or lime wedges)
3) 20 minutes outside (get out while the sun is here and soak in that Vitamin D)
4) 15 minutes chatting with a friend (we all get busy so reach out to a loved one and stay connected)
5) 1 Sweet Treat (go easy on the ice cream scoops, candy, or adult beverage; trust me your body and skin will look better)
6) 51 Minutes of exercise (find a studio or gym near you, head to the class with a friend to keep each other accountable)
And one more fun idea recipe idea for your summer, drink more plants! Did you know Dandelion Root tea has natural detoxification properties that help your body process and break down fats during digestion and cart away waste? Who knew?! My favorite brand is from Traditional Medicinals and you can find it at QFC and Fred Meyer. What will your recipe be for balance in your own life?
Do more with less, laugh, put on your positive pants and enjoy your life. This is the only one we have to live. Live it well.
