Step out Friday night to experience Rhythms of Nature
Tue, 11/01/2016
The Burien Arts Gallery just might have the cure for your fall rainy-day blues.
This Friday night, Nov. 4, you can step out to meet artist Lolly Shera and experience the “Rhythms of Nature” through her delightful paintings showcased at the Gallery in November.
The Artist’s Reception runs 5-8 p.m. at the Gallery, 826 S.W. 152nd St. in Olde Burien.
Also meet Marta Creswell and Janet Price who will be exhibiting in the Artists United room at the Gallery.
Marta, a versatile artist adept at many mediums, will be showing her pastel work. Janet exhibits her art nationally and will be featuring her portraits and figurative work.
Discussing her oil on linen painting of Mt. Si in the Snoqualmie Valley, Lolly Shea reveals her artistic process. She titles the piece, “Last Warm Rays.”
“I remember the day I started this painting ‘en plein air’ and it was a fall day, really cold and windy!” Lolly notes. “ I could hardly keep the easel standing upright and I had to use the car as a wind block.
“Many times I will start a painting outdoors and bring it back to the studio to finish. It's a little more comfortable inside and my hands aren't frozen holding the brush. Fortunately, I can bring back all the memories of being there, including the sounds, smells and sights, all of which assist me in completing the painting.
“For this one I decided to add a stream feature because I liked how it leads the eye into the painting. Lots of times I will make compositional choices during the painting process because the painting is conversing back and forth with me and I try to listen and feel where it needs to go.”
Lolly’s honors and awards include Best of Show, The Clymer Museum & Gallery, West of the Mississippi Juried Exhibition, 2015; Scholarship Award, Puget Sound Group of Northwest Artists, 2011; and Second Place, Burien Arts Juried Competition, 2010.
Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions throughout Washington state.
Lolly’s show runs through November at the Gallery.
