West Seattle Grand Parade was bright and beautiful

The 2017 edition of the West Seattle Grand Parade was big, bold and beautiful as usual with more than 70 entries traveling the route from the Admiral District to the West Seattle Junction. The parade was sponsored by the West Seattle Rotary Club and was announced by KIRO TV’s Allison Grande.
The day began with the West Seattle Kiddies Parade which has seen dwindling participation in the last few years and may be terminated from the event in the future. West Seattle Rotary members made a great effort however and went into the crowd to recruit kids to be in the event which eventually had about 20 kids and parents take part.
The Vancouver B.C. Police Motorcycle Drill Team and Seattle Police Motorcycle Drill Team both delighted the crowd as the main parade got underway. The Daffodill Festival float from Pierce County was well received and sadly missing this year was the Hi-Yu float since the organization chose to go inactive last year.
Grand Marshall of the event District 1 Seattle City Councilmember Lisa Herbold was practicing her best parade wave and the recipient of this year's Orville RUmmell Trophy for Outstanding Community Service American Legion Post 160 Commander Kieth Hughes was in a convertible too.
King County Executive Dow Constantine, a parade regular was walking the route with his crew as his wife and three year old were happy to watch from the shade.
The Seafair Pirates boomed their way through the parade, The Kenney, Quail Park Memory Care, WestSide Baby with their Stuff the Bus campaign, The Kennedy High School Marching Band, the All City Band, Seafair Scholarship recipients, The Seattle Chinese Community Drill Team, West Seattle Lions Club, and Joyas Mestizas Mexican folk dance group all took part.
