Kelemete gets in at right tackle
Evergreen High School graduate Senio Kelemete spent the National Football League preseason starting at center for the New Orleans Saints, but regular and former Seattle Seahawks center Max Unger returned from foot surgery just in time for Monday's season opener in Minnesota against the Vikings.
So Kelemete started off on the bench, but got into the game early Monday at right tackle because of an injury to the starter there.
Kelemete is a versatile 6-foot, 3-inch and 300-pound lineman who can play any of the five core offensive line positions.
Kela still on disabled list
Chief Sealth graduate Keone Kela is still on the disabled list for the Major League Baseball Texas Rangers as they try to compete for a wild card berth without him.
Kela had a 4-1 record with a 2.36 earned run average and one save before going on the DL with shoulder soreness.
Kela has 46 strikeouts in 34.1 innings of work in 34 games and has walked only 16.
Barnette has two saves
Thomas Jefferson graduate Tony Barnette works out of the same Texas Rangers bullpen and is still active, recently earning two saves.
Barnette has a 1-1 record and a 4.82 ERA with 54 strikeouts and 19 walks over 52.1 innings in 44 games.
Brett finishes with .250 average
Highline High School graduate Ryan Brett finished with a .250 batting average (10-for-40) as a second baseman for the Durham Bulls of the Tampa Bay Rays organization.
Brett hit five doubles and had three RBI and two runs scored.
Conger looking for a job
Federal Way native Hank Conger -- who was raised in Huntington Beach, Calif. -- is currently looking for a job as a catcher after his release from the Reno Aces by the parent Arizona Diamondbacks on Aug. 1.
Ishikawa sat out season
Federal Way High School graduate Travis Ishikawa wound up sitting out the 2017 baseball season and is still a free agent looking for a job as a first baseman, pinch hitter and outfielder.
Madison, Cougars are 2-0
Kennedy graduate Cole Madison is a 6-5, 314 starting right tackle for the Washington State University Cougars, who have gotten off to a 2-0 start.
McClatcher helps Huskies to 2-0
Also getting off to a 2-0 start is the University of Washington football team that includes Federal Way graduate Chico McClatcher as a receiver and running back.
McPherson with UW volleyball
Kennedy graduate and West Seattle resident Shayne McPherson is a sophomore defensive specialist and libero for the University of Washington women's volleyball squad.
