information from South Seattle College
Today it was announced that South Seattle College was selected to participate in the Uber PNW Community Impact Initiative.
“We are excited to partner with Uber PNW as part of their Community Impact Initiative in providing scholarship and work opportunities to students as they pursue higher education and career goals,” said South Seattle College Interim President Peter Lortz.
To support those who wish to advance their education, Uber created a scholarship program through South Seattle College’s Foundation available to driver-partners and their families. Uber is also working with South Seattle College’s WorkSource and TRiOPrograms to introduce opportunities for students to generate income through the sharing economy.
“In the communities where we do business, we seek to support organizations and causes that make meaningful, positive impact,” said Brooke Steger, General Manager for Uber in the Pacific Northwest. “South Seattle College is certainly one of those organizations. We’re extremely proud to be supporting the great work they’re doing.”
In addition to participating in the scholarship program, Uber is also providing students discounted rides via uberPOOL to address transportation challenges on campus while reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental sustainability. The rideshare company also worked with South Seattle College to set up a dedicated pick-up and drop-off zone on campus to make the Uber experience better for both riders and drivers.
Each year, Uber teams up with nonprofits, social enterprises and educational institutions across the region to support social, economic and environmental causes that align with one or more impact areas: mobility, opportunity, safety and efficiency. South Seattle College is one of 25 organizations that was selected to participate this year. For 2017, total programmatic and philanthropic contributions in the PNW will total more than $400,000.
