The 19th Annual Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner presented by Tuxedos and Tennis Shoes is coming up Nov. 23 from 12pm to 3pm at the Hall at Fauntleroy, 9131 California Ave SW Seattle, 98136.
This wonderful tradition was started 19 years ago by owners David Meckstroth and David and Meg Haggerty to honor Meg's grandfather, Big Gordon. Big Gordon would drive around with a trunk full of frozen turkeys, dropping off the birds at local churches for distribution to the needy.
Their delicious turkey dinner with all the fixings is prepared by their Production Chef with the help of the Tuxedos and Tennis Shoes Catering chef team. On Thanksgiving Day, they have a crew of more than 60 volunteers, many of them employees, who help with set up, dishing up the meal, serving, clean up, etc. This meal is open to everyone whether they need the hot meal or a just place to go because they don’t have anyone to celebrate with. This mix of people creates an uplifting and festive event and it is heartwarming to see people making new friends as they enjoy their meal together.
Over 300 people have a meal! (Including most of the 70ish volunteers!)
Their volunteer slots fill up fast but we still have availability and volunteers are welcome to eat also. People can sign up for a volunteer slot here http://signup.com/go/ZwFoWVG
They accept dessert donations, there is a spot on the sign up link with information. They also have a clothing bank with emphasis on warm clothing, blankets and socks and all are welcome to take what they need.
Their Office Manager, Carol who has been with the company for over 20 years has been to 17 of the last 18 Community Thanksgiving dinners!
