Attempted burglars stopped by security
When officers arrived in the 5400 block of California Avenue S.W. around 4:30 a.m. on Tues., Nov. 14 to investigate a burglary, they were met by a security guard, who had been next door when he heard a loud noise. He looked outside the window and saw two men banging on the front door of the business with sledgehammers, trying to break the glass. When the security guard called out to the men to stop, they ran away. Officers checked the area but were unable to find evidence of the crime.
Burglary on 44th Avenue S.W.
At 12:50 p.m. on Fri., Nov. 10, officers received a call about a burglary in the 4500 block of 44th Avenue S.W. The victim said that he had been away from his apartment several times during the day. At one point, he saw his sunglass case lying in the hallway of the front lobby. He thought it was odd. When he went to his apartment, he discovered that his watch was missing as well as $14. Officers searched for fingerprints but did not find any.
Burglar on 35th Avenue S.W. uses food to damage property
Officers received a report of a burglary in the 9000 block of 35th Avenue S.W. around noon on Thurs., Nov. 9. When they arrived on the scene, the caller was waiting across the street from the apartment building. He said that he left at 5:30 a.m. for work and returned home to see his apartment door open. Then, he called police. Officers cleared the apartment. There were no signs of forced entry, but the apartment was ransacked. Household items were scattered across the floor. An Apple laptop was missing. Food was strewn across the floor and poured on his electronics. Officers asked if anyone might have animosity towards the victim, and he mentioned a recent ex-girlfriend. He noted that three large duffle bags containing her clothes, which he set aside for her, were missing.
Car prowl in secured parking lot on California Avenue S.W.
At 10 p.m. Wed., Nov. 8, officers were dispatched to check out a car prowl in a parking garage in the 4700 block of California Avenue S.W. The victim showed officers how his passenger side window was shattered. He left his blackberry on the front seat and it was stolen.
