Shoplifter arrested after multiple attempts stealing
Around 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10, officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of SW Barton to deal with a shoplifter who was in custody. The loss prevention officer at the business said that he and his partner had noticed the suspect in the store and recognized him from other shoplifting attempts. The man had already been trespassed from the store. He went to a beer cooler and started pulling cans out of six-packs and putting the brews in his pants. When he walked out of the store, the loss prevention officer stopped him and detained him until police arrived. Officers handcuffed the suspect and transported him to King County Jail for theft and criminal trespass.
Burglars break into apartment mailbox
Officers went to investigate a burglary in the 3200 block of SW Avalon Way around10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9. The complainant told them one of the apartment unit’s mailbox panels had been damaged during the burglary, which happened around 3 a.m. Footage showed that two suspects entered the property by tampering with the main entry door lock. There was one male and one female who took the tenants mail, as well as packages stored at the bottom of the mailboxes.
Man rescued by a friend
Around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8, officers met with a victim of an attempted robbery in the 4700 block of 42 Ave SW. He told that them earlier in the day, he head people yelling in a parking lot and saw two suspects, a male and a female. He could not tell what they were saying. The person who they were confronting got into a vehicle and drove away. The couple then got into a maroon sedan and exited the parking lot. They saw the victim, who was holding his phone and a package. The woman jumped out and ran towards him. She yelled at the victim, asking if he was recording them. She tried to grab his cell phone but was unsuccessful. Then she grabbed the package and tried to wrestle it away from him. The male suspect got out of his car and pulled the woman away. Then, the man started yelling at the victim. A friend drove up and rescued the victim, who said he was not injured. He did not know who the suspects were – and did not think he had ever seen them before.
Young shoplifters hit store on SW Barton St.
Around 11 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, officers responded to a call about shoplifting in the 2600 block of SW Barton St. The caller, who manager the store, and the victim of the robbery met police at the front of the shop. They said that four male suspects entered and tried to take multiple food items without paying. The manager and victim confronted the suspects. They were able to detain one of suspects, but then the others intervened and fought with the manager and victim. They eventually all got away, running out the door with several items. They dropped most of the items in the parking lot, and store employees were able to recover them. The suspects fled and were last seen running west and across California Ave SW. The suspects were between the ages of 13 and 15. The store manager did not have access to video surveillance. He did not want to prosecute the suspects for the assault.
