One half of a 60 foot twinned Western Red Cedar finally split off and fell in the 3900 block of Elmgrove Street SW on Sunday. The tree may have been weakened by wind on Saturday but the wind Sunday came out of the north and that led to the tree falling.
It came down across two back yards. First in the yard of Wendy and Andrew Haines where it did no damage then struck two gutters of the house owned by Ross Hudson before smashing through and destroying a backyard arbor.
The massive thud drew the attention of neighbors in the area. The loss of one half of the twins has visibly weakened the other tree and it may have to be taken down.
Insurance companies have been called.
