Heroin user found trespassing in vacant house
Officers received a call about a trespass in the 6300 block of 36 Ave SW around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13. The homeowner met police at the door. She explained that the property was for sale and currently unoccupied. She came to check on her house and saw a hypodermic syringe on the stairwell. She left the house and dialed 911, concerned that someone may still be inside. Officers searched the interior of the house. They found a screen removed from one of the windows. They also found a number of personal items on the lower floor of the house. Then, officers saw movement and found the suspect, who they handcuffed. The man said was planning to stay at the home for a couple of nights and use heroin there. He added that a woman was staying with him but did not give any more information about her. The suspect already had a misdemeanor warrant for criminal solicitation and vehicle prowling. The man was transported to the precinct and then booked in jail. Officers took photos of the residence for evidence. They found a purse, checks and more needles inside. Officers found the owner of the purse, who said she was recently a victim of a car prowl.
Bike storage broken into
Around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13, officers were dispatched to the 4400 block of 35th Ave SW. The incident occurred in the bicycle storage area of a building. The caller said that at 6 p.m. the evening before, he saw that the area was locked and secure. The next morning, he returned and noticed that the gate was damaged. No property was taken. The manager of the building said there was no surveillance camera footage. Photos of the gate were entered into evidence.
Early morning burglary
Police arrived in the 7600 block of 41 Ave SW around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13 to investigate a burglary. The victim said she locked her home when leaving at 6:30 a.m. When she returned home a couple hours later, she noticed the door was ajar. She walked to the back door and saw it was also damaged. She walked through the house and realized someone had burglarized her. Her bracelet and college ring were missing. Officers took photos for evidence. They were unable to obtain fingerprints. A neighbor reported hearing a loud noise at the house around 7:30 a.m., which could have been someone kicking in the door.
Laundry room thief
The owner of an apartment building in the 8800 block of 9 Ave SW called police around noon on Monday, Feb. 12 to report a burglary in the laundry room. He explained that the facility had been damaged in previous burglaries. The residents of the apartment building have a key to the room. The suspect may have had a key or forced the door open, then stole all of the quarters and pried open the surveillance video, stealing the hard drive. The victim thought a man living in the building was suspicious and may be guilty of the crime.
