Brett makes it a Texas trio
Highline graduate Ryan Brett has left the Tampa Bay Rays organization and signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers that included an invitation to the Major League camp this spring.
Brett joins Chief Sealth graduate Keone Kela and Thomas Jefferson graduate Tony Barnette at the Rangers’ camp to form a threesome of local athletes.
Brett, a second baseman, signed with the Rangers as a free agent Jan. 10. He played for the Durham Bulls of the Rays organization this past year.
Kela and Barnette both return as mainstays in the Texas bullpen.
Barnette has a 2-0 record this spring, while Kela is 0-0 with a 3.86 earned run average and four strikeouts in 2.1 innings of work. Barnette also has four strikeouts only in five innings.
