Woman tries to sneak out with cupcake
The manager of a restaurant located in the 4500 block of California Ave SW called police around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 1. He said that a woman entered and was talking to herself, but at first was not bothering anyone. Then she tried to grab a cupcake from behind the counter and tried to walk away. When the store employee tried to stop the woman, she swung a punch. The employee blocked the woman. The manager then stepped in to help. The suspect grabbed a steel travel mug from a display and walked outside. The manager said that the woman had asked for her dope. He did not press charges for robbery or assault but asked for officers to officially trespass the woman from the business. Officers searched the area for the woman but were unable to find her.
Shoplifters push manager out of way for getaway
Around 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, a manager of a store located in the 2600 block of SW Barton St. called police to report shoplifters. She said that she approached the men after they were seen grabbing multiple items and asked if she could bring the stuff to the counter. They said no, and then began to walk towards the store’s exit. The manager asked them to return the items. One suspect pushed her out of the way, and the other two suspects ran out of the store. The manager saw them getting into a car and fleeing the scene. A witness recorded their license plates.
Bicycle thief strikes on 18th Ave SW
Around 2 p.m. on Monday, April 2, a man residing in the 7700 block of 18th Ave SW called police to report a stolen electric bicycle. He told officers that the suspect entered his yard between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. the day before. The suspect left a golf club outside the man’s shed, which was made from a tarp and metal poles. The suspect took apart the poles, as the bike was locked to the structure. The suspect also took a pair of heavy-duty garden clippers. Officers were unable to locate any fingerprints but did take photos to submit into evidence.
Construction site burglarized
Around 7:15 a.m. on Monday, April 2, a superintendent on a job site in the 3200 block of California Ave SW called police to report a burglary. He said that the day before, unknown suspects forced entry into four separate townhomes, all still under construction. The doors to all four units were damaged, as were the frames, totally $6,000 in loss. There were no other signs of theft. The superintendent thought the damage was malicious. He had fired an employee for stealing tools and thought the man could be involved. Officers were not able to find any fingerprints.
