Madison picked by Packers
Kennedy Catholic graduate and Burien resident Cole Madison was selected out of Washington State University by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the recent National Football League draft and signed a contract with them at a rookie orientation camp this past weekend.
Madison plays guard and stands at 6-foot, 5-inches tall and 308 pounds.
“I know he’s tough,” said Packers regional scout Sam Sealy in a Green Bay publicity article. “Hopefully he’s willing to compete and we get another gem to help this football team.”
Madison was thrilled when the call came.
“I can’t explain it,” Madison said in the same Packers article. “My whole body went numb. It was the greatest experience of my life.”
McCullough batting .341
West Seattle graduate Morgan McCullough has raised his batting average to .341 for Chipola Junior College in Florida, racking up 61 hits in 179 at-bats.
McCullough has 47 RBI and 45 runs scored to go with four home runs, two triples and 15 doubles.
Barnette ‘s ERA leads Texas
Thomas Jefferson graduate Tony Barnette leads the Texas Rangers pitching staff with his earned run average of 2.57.
Barnette has thrown seven innings over five games out of the bullpen, striking out six and walking only two. He has an 0-0 record.
Barnette started the season on the disabled list.
Kela contributes six saves
Chief Sealth graduate Keone Kela has six saves in as many opportunities for the same Texas Rangers Major League Baseball team.
Kela has worked 11 innings over 13 games, striking out 13. He has a 2-2 record.
Mann 1-0 for Round Rock
Mount Rainier graduate Brandon Mann has a 1-0 record and a 0.00 ERA over 14.1 innings and 10 games for the Round Rock Express, the Texas Rangers’ Class AAA Pacific Coast League farm team.
Mann has 11 strikeouts and has had one start.
Brett hitting .268 for Barons
Highline graduate Ryan Brett is hitting .268 for the Birmingham Barons, who are the Texas Rangers’ Class AA team.
Brett has 11 hits in 41 at-bats with three doubles, six runs scored and one RBI.
Brett splits time in right field for the Barons.
Gallagher checks in at .261
Kennedy Catholic graduate Maggie Gallagher is hitting .261 for the University of Washington women’s fastpitch softball team with six hits in 23 at-bats. She has two doubles, four runs scored and four RBI for the Huskies.
