A total of $161,805 was raised for West Seattle-area residents experiencing hunger at the West Seattle Food Bank's 11th Annual "Instruments of Change" fundraiser, this year held at the Seattle Design Center.
“I am really sorry we have to do this work," said West Seattle Food Bank Executive Director Fran Yeatts. “But we know it will make a difference in the lives of 10,000 people this year, and I am so grateful to our volunteers, staff and neighbors for making that possible.”
The Instruments of Change event had 250 attendees, and this year the annual Instrument of Change Award honored locally-owned grocery store, West Seattle Thriftway.
“We’re just a small family-owned grocery store that’s trying to help the community,” said store owner Paul Kapioski. “We’re happy to be part of this community and help in any way we can.”
In 2017, the West Seattle Food Bank distributed 1.8 million pounds of food in support of more than 10,000 individuals. Through its innovative shopping-style model; Mobile Food Bank services, including four off-site distributions and home delivery program; backpack program; baby & child corner; community connection services; bookcase; pet pantry, and, 513 volunteers, the Food Bank is committed to providing food security and community connections to neighbors in need.
