Lauryn Nguyen of West Seattle High School stroked her way to a second place finish in the Class 3A girls state golf tournament held Tuesday and Wednesday at the Indian Canyon Golf Course in Spokane.
Nguyen shot two rounds of 74 for a total of 148.
Nguyen finished 10 strokes behind first place finisher Brittany Kwon of Central Kitsap, who shot a round of 73 the first day and a 65 the second for her total of 138.
Kennedy Knox of Mount Rainier placed sixth in the 4A girls competition at the Sun Willows course in Pasco with rounds of 74 and 71 for a total of 145.
Coming in one stroke behind Knox and trying for seventh place was Alyssa Nguyen of Kennedy Catholic with a 75 and a 71 for a total of 146.
Missing the first day cut of 83 in the same tournament were Alyssa Konopaski of Mount Rainier with an 85 and Julia Diaz of Kennedy Catholic with a 91.
Coming in sixth in the 1B/2B/1A girls tournament was Alexa Moormeier of Seattle Christian with rounds of 85 and 76 for a total of 161. Teammate Brittany Gessell missed the first day cut of 100.
Jack Madsen of Highline placed 37th in the 2A boys tournament at Columbia Point in Richland. Madsen shot an 84 and an 81 for a total of 165.
Missing the first day cut of 78 in the 4A boys tournament at Canyon Lakes in Kennewick were James Navarro of Kennedy with an 81 and Nick Feighner of Kennedy with an 88.
Missing the first day cut of 79 in the 3A boys tournament at Qualchan in Spokane were Cameron Smith of West Seattle with an 82 and Alex Nguyen of West Seattle with a 90.
Zach Olson of Seattle Christian competed in the 1A boys tournament at the Liberty Lake course in Liberty Lake near Spokane and shot a 105 the first day to miss the cut of 88.
