The City of SeaTac has published this overview update of various public works projects in the area including road repairs, improvements and utility work.
Utility Work – South 188th Street
Utility work to service the new Hilton Garden Hotel (currently under construction) at 3056 South 188th Street is ongoing. This work will require lane closures on South 188th Street east of International Boulevard. Appropriate notification, traffic control measures, and off-duty officers (as required) are being used to manage traffic through this work area.
Burien Gateway Project
Right-of-way improvements associated with construction in the City of Burien has begun on the west side of Des Moines Memorial Drive South between South 144th Street and South 140th Street. The southbound lane of Des Moines Memorial Drive and part of the intersection at South 144th Street will be ground and overlaid in the near future. At times, one-lane closures with alternating directions of travel will be in place. Traffic control measures will include signage, flaggers, and off-duty police officers. Lane closures will be in place only during working hours. This work is anticipated to be completed in June 2018.
12th Place and 13th Avenue South Overlay Project
The scope of this project includes pavement repair, asphalt paving, and stormwater improvements on 12th Place South and 13th Avenue South between South 200th Street and South 207th Street, and South 207th Street between 12th Place South and 14th Avenue South. Highline Water District (HWD) will be replacing all of their water lines and services within the project limits ahead of the overlay. Construction began on May 29, 2018 and installation of the water main is underway.
2018 Spot Drainage Repairs
Storm drainage infrastructure repair at multiple locations throughout the City. Bid opening was held on May 9, 2018. All bids were rejected by City Council on June 12 so the contract will be restructured and re-bid.
Pedestrian Sidewalk Access Evaluation (ADA Transition Plan)
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan will include a Self-Evaluation Study which identifies barriers within public rights-of-way to persons with disabilities from access (for example at curb ramps, sidewalks, pedestrian crossings and signals, shared use trails, parking lots, and bus stops). The draft final plan was presented at the May 17 T&PW Committee meeting.
South 166th Street “Safe Routes to School” Project
This “Safe Routes to School” program grant-funded project includes construction of sidewalks, curbs and gutters, storm drainage facilities, installation of an enhanced crosswalk, pedestrian lighting, and radar speed feedback signs. This project is scheduled for construction in the summer of 2018. WSDOT has authorized the advertisement of the project for June 14 with a July 5 bid opening date.

2019 Overlay
The scope of this project includes pavement repairs and overlay, ADA ramp upgrades, and stormwater facility improvements on Des Moines Memorial Drive from South 128th Street to approximately South 140th Street. Project scope, schedule, and preliminary estimate are being developed.
34th Avenue South Sidewalk Project
The scope of this project includes the construction of approximately 2,800 linear feet of 6 foot wide sidewalks, planter strips, curbs, gutters, ADA ramps, bike lanes, pedestrian lighting, and storm drainage facilities on both sides of 34th Avenue South from South 160th Street to South 166th Street. Additionally, the project will include a grind and overlay of existing HMA pavement, the over- head utilities will be undergrounded and traffic calming elements will be incorporated into the design. A consultant selection process was implemented to choose a design firm for this project and Parametrix, Inc. was selected. The scope of work and fee estimate are being prepared for Council review and approval.
South 200th Street Shared Pathway Project
This scope of this project includes the construction of approximately 3,500 linear feet of 12 foot wide shared-use pathways with ADA curb ramps along the south side of South 200th Street from Des Moines Memorial Drive to the Des Moines Creek trailhead. Right-of-way acquisitioning, pedestrian illumination, and stormwater conveyance and treatment facilities will also be included in the scope of this project. A consultant selection process was implemented to choose a design firm for this project and PBS was selected. The scope of the work and fee estimate are being prepared for Council review and approval.
